Check Engine Light Diagnosis in North Phoenix

A glowing check engine light does not always mean a big repair, but it should not be ignored. Hardy Mechanics reads the codes, finds the real cause and fixes it so the light stays off.

Signs you may need check engine light diagnosis

• The check engine light is on or flashing
• Rough idle, stalling or hesitation when you accelerate
• Worse fuel economy than usual
• A fuel smell or unusual exhaust smell
• Reduced power
• The vehicle needs to pass an emissions test

What we do

• Scanning and reading trouble codes
• Diagnosing the cause behind the code, since a code is a starting point
• Repairs such as sensors, spark plugs, ignition coils and vacuum or evaporative leaks
• Clearing the code and confirming the fix
• Warning light diagnosis for other dashboard lights

Chris Hardy services all makes and models of cars and trucks. We explain what we find in plain language so you can decide what to fix.

Common questions

Is it safe to drive with the check engine light on?

If the light is steady and the car drives normally, you can usually drive it for a short time, but get it checked soon. If the light is flashing, the engine may be misfiring. Reduce speed and have it looked at right away.

Can a loose gas cap turn the light on?

Yes. A loose or worn gas cap can trigger an evaporative system code. If the light stays on after tightening it, bring the vehicle in.

Will you just reset the light?

Clearing a code without fixing the cause only works until it comes back. We find the cause first.
